Orange has a particularly celebrated Indian home in Nagpur and the citrus belt of Maharashtra, where the GI-tagged Nagpur Orange has become so closely associated with the region that Nagpur is known as India’s Orange City. The mandarin’s aromatic sweetness makes citrus and cacao natural companions.
Nagpur oranges blossom during the monsoon and their principal harvest begins around December, making orange an especially evocative winter fruit in India. Chocolate allows that bright citrus character to become an indulgence that can be enjoyed beyond the fresh-fruit season.
Orange is paired with chocolate to create a balance between citrus fragrance and cacao’s natural depth. The aim is not an excessively sweet orange confection, but a chocolate in which the fruit provides brightness and a lingering aromatic finish.
