Why we started

It began at a dinner table.

“So much of India's food heritage is passed on only through memory. When that chain breaks, a recipe can disappear.”

In November 2015, a family dinner conversation stayed with Sanchi and her husband. Grandmothers rarely wrote their recipes down, and the ingredients we grew up with were being forgotten. So, with their small savings and a little stall at Dastkar in Delhi, they set out to bring those flavours back, one jar and one chocolate at a time.

A dinner and a name

A conversation about the food of Uttar Pradesh turned into a pan-Indian idea. One Sunday of brainstorming later, we had a name: Heritage, for memory and tradition. On My Plate, to make it edible.
